It is recommend that women receive a gynecological exam every year from about 18-21 years old. Annual gynecological exams ensure that you and your doctor are informed of any diseases, changes, hormonal issues, or various other health risks and concerns which are all important to maintain the health of your body.
It is important that never skip your yearly exam as they are vital to keeping your body healthy as with most diseases and abnormalities, the sooner you catch the problem, the easier it is to heal!
During your gynecological exam, Dr Kim check for the below health related issues as well as the possibility of a pregnancy:
Cervical Cancers
STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases)
Ovarian Cysts
Breast Cysts
Kidney Infection or Diseases
In addition to these specific diseases, the exam will essentially ensure that everything is running smoothly. If there are any issues, Dr. Kim will inform you directly and prescribe a treatment plan.
If you are scheduling your first annual exam, you should be relaxed as it is generally a painless check up.
Although it may not go in this exact order, here’s what will happen: You will be asked about your height, weight, last period, and general health since your previous appointment. Next, you will take a urine test. Dr. Kim will then conduct a pelvic exam internally and externally. If you are getting a pap smear, the test will happen now.
Before and during the exam, Dr. Kim will walk you through the process so that you feel safe, secure, and have all the information you need.
