Ultrasounds are one of the best ways to assess the growth and development of your baby while in utero. The technology used sound waves sent through the abdomen to collect an image, and within that image, Dr. Kim will be able to tell you the gender of your baby, as well as a great deal of information on how they’re doing in there!
Here are quite a few of the amazing things you can find out after getting an ultrasound:
Confirm your pregnancy.
Detecting birth disorders.
Detects complications or medical conditions.
Find out your baby’s age and due date.
Check your baby’s heart rate, organs, bones, and muscles.
Find out the baby’s position and location of the placenta.
Check for ectopic pregnancy.
Determine the gender of your baby.
Determine if you are pregnant with multiples.
Check your amniotic fluid levels.
That’s a lot of information! However, it will likely take several ultrasounds in order to successfully understand everything that’s going on with your baby.
Dr Kim uses ultrasound during your every visit to monitor the baby's health and development.
The first will happen at your initial visit to confirm pregnancy and set a due date. The next occurs at the end of the first trimester to check for any medical conditions. Your third appointment will be set between 19-20 weeks for a more detailed assessment of the growth and development of the baby. After that until 36 weeks, you will be visiting in every two weeks and then once a week.
And it’s important to understand that more may be recommended throughout your pregnancy. But don’t worry, ultrasounds are usually quite an enjoyable experience!
There is no pain or discomfort, and you will be able to actually see your little baby growing inside.
